The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) says that the state suffered from 281,788 traffic accidents in 2011, the most current year for complete statistics. (The figures did not distinguish by manufacturer and so included Lincolns, GMCs, Jeeps, among others.)
About 918 people died in 835 crashes, and 84,172 people were injured.
A quarter of the crashes happened at intersections.
Over 80 percent were on dry roads
Almost half were during the daylight hours.
In addition to our commitment to honesty and personal service, we are an Arlington Heights auto repair center that cares about the well-being and safety of our customers. To avoid being part of the accident statistics for the current year, please follow a few safety tips.
Do not drink and drive. Over a third of the adult drivers and 20 percent of those aged 16 to 20 who died had a positive blood alcohol concentration. If you must drink, have a friend drive you home or take a taxi.
Stay alert so you can react to changes in traffic conditions. This means don’t talk or text on your cellphone, put makeup on or shave, or eat while driving. Scan the road constantly so you can spot road hazards and avoid them. If you do discover something that you must report to the police, pull over to a safe area and then use your cellphone.
Keep your car well maintained so it remains responsive to your maneuvers. Taking your vehicle in for regular tune-ups, oil changes, and tire rotations at a Arlington Heights auto repair center like ours means less chance of a sudden breakdown, which can cause accidents.
If you want more tips on safe driving, feel free to call your Arlington Heights auto repair expert. If, despite your best efforts, you get into an accident, bring your car in so we can get it back to working order.
